Army Spc. Frances M. Vega,20, of Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico was killed November 2, 2003 when the chinook carrying her to R&R leave went down due to enemy fire. Her records with the Army show she was born in San Francisco, but she listed Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico as her permanent address with the Army. Vega, joined the Army in Nov. of 2001 and was assigned to the 151st AG (Postal) Company based at Fort Hood, Texas in May of 2002. She was an Administrative Clerk. Vega, was buried November 9, 2003 in Puerto Rico's National Cemetery and was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
