Army Sgt. Monicka R. Torres,20,was killed when the vehicle she was riding in came under attack and was ambushed.
Torres, was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but Army records show Brooklyn, New York, as her permanent address.
Torres's body was transferred to The Dominican Republic from Dover Air Force Base late Saturday night, but the Military did not officially notify the media at the family's request for privacy.
Torres, was buried in Santo Domingo, where her father is from, her mother a Puerto Rico native resides in Brooklyn, New York where the fallen soldier was educated.
Torres, was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart at a ceremony the family held in Private.
Torres, who was based at Fort Hood, Texas and assigned to the 15th Personnel Service Battalion, Adet, was killed along with 6 other soldiers November 13,2003 in Tikrit, Iraq.
