Army SGT. Monicka R.Torres, 20 was killed November 13,2003 in Tikrit, Iraq when her vehicle came under attack and was ambushed.

Torres, was born in The Dominican Republic where she was raised and partially educated, she graduated in 2001 from Bishop Ford High School in Brooklyn, New York.

Torres, joined the Army December 9, 2001 and was assigned to the 15TH Personnel Service Battalion, Detachment A, based at Fort Hood, Texas.

Monicka was buried in the National Cemetery in the Dominican Republic the service was private at her family's request, she was posthumously awarded a
Bronze star and Purple Heart.

Monicka was married two months before she departed to Iraq, but the names of her husband and parents will not be released at their request to deal with the death in private.
